Expert Operator / Lab Technician

Job description

At Lumiphase, we are looking for a full-time Expert Operator / Lab Technician to join our team for operating advanced photonics testing setups and assembly of photonic chips. You will work in cross-functional teams with versatile and exciting responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Operations Support: Wafer/Chip Testing

  • Execute daily testing plans based on priorities.
  • Reconfigure hardware testers for various products.
  • Perform tests and promptly communicate their status.
  • Manage the flow of wafers and chip samples in the lab, including storage and sorting.
  • Conduct periodic checks to ensure consistent testing quality.

Lab Technician: Support Lab Activities

  • Perform tasks related to the assembly of photonics chips.
  • Handle mechanical, electrical, and optical assembly and modifications of automated lab setups.
  • Support debugging and maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Help to maintain a clean, safe, and healthy lab environment.
  • Report issues and daily maintenance tasks to R&D engineers.
  • Assist in lab upgrades and routine maintenance.
  • Update the inventory system with new instruments and keep the system up to date.

Requirements

  • Technical education, trade/vocational school, or a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Hands-on attitude and passion for lab work.
  • Experience in technical labs in a similar role.
  • Agile mindset to adapt to a dynamic environment with changeable priorities.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills (English and German).
  • Knowledge of Python and Git repositories is a plus.

Interview process

Our recruitment process consists of three stages:

  1. 30 min phone interview with our People & Culture team member to discuss your general career motivations, and present our company and this role.
  2. 1-1.5 hour phone interview with 1-2 members of the hiring team to deep dive into the core skills requirements.
  3. An on-site visit to interview with and meet many members of the team that you would be working in. This often includes lunch and gives you a strong sense of the company culture and individuals.

Then, both parties make their decisions! We aim to complete all steps in one month but also allow for modifications to ensure both sides have a full picture of the skills and culture match to take the decision in an informed way.
